Why are cell phones banned?

Why are cell phones banned from schools? That's a question for which I would really like to have an answer. At my school, the Lynhurst Seventh and Eighth Grade Center, cell phones are not allowed on school property under any circumstances! I really wonder why. Of course, this is my opinion, and my opinion only; you can agree and disagree, but I think that cell phones should be allowed. Now some of my teachers, may disagree, but I have evidence to back up my thoughts, of course, so do my teachers.
First, I'll give you what I think: I think that cell phones should be allowed to be carried with students not turned on.
Now I'll tell you what my teachers think: cell phones should not be allowed on school property.
But, wait; I've got evidence to back up my claims that cell phones should be allowed to be carried students. Once, I was staying after school for the drama club. I was boarding the late bus which took students home from after-school activities when I started feeling sick. So I decided that instead of taking the risk of having to vomit on the school bus, I would go back inside school to call my mom to have her pick me up. Well, of course, I needed to call my mom to tell her what had happened so I assumed that there would be some people still in the main office. I went there, and the doors were locked. So then, I decided to go to Student Services: no one was there. I then decided to just walk from room-to-room to see if any staff member was still in the school. After about fifteen minutes, I found perhaps the only staff member left in the building. So I asked him, my keyboarding teacher, if I could use the phone, and I then called my mom. Of course, if I had a cell phone. I could have just called my mom on-the-spot.
Now, here's the argument against me: students could use the cell phones to cheat on tests, quizzes, exams, et cetera. Now, of course this is not a very big problem at all, and it goes on right now, even though cell phone are currently banned. This problem would still be present if they allowed cell phones.
So, in conclusion, I will leave it to you, the reader, to draw your own conclusion. Do you agree with the banning of cell phones?

In my school they say that cell phones may violate personal rights. This is especially enforced with camera phones. Anyone has the ability to lets say take a picture of someone in the change rooms and distribute it around the globe. That and phones tend to go off in class, disrupting what ever is taking place. This usually takes place in the event of tests and so on.

I think the number one reason they are banned is because they are a distraction. Students should be there to learn, really there is no need for a phone on school grounds at all.

Your story, while maybe pointing out a good reason to have a cell phone, is more a story of your school not having proper resources available for students. As you said, were someone in the main office you wouldn't have had a problem. If you can walk around your school for 15 minutes without running into faculty it's a mark against your school, not a reason to carry a cell phone.

At my old school, they had the policy that if you do have a cell phone, it should be secure in the locker and shut OFF. The only reason they are even allowed on campus is to contact people, mainly parents/guardians, that they are staying after school, needing a ride home, getting a ride home with someone else, staying after for a basketball game, etc.

As an older person, I went to school when there were no cell phones in the schools.  They existed, but weren't as prolific as they are now. And guess, what, we managed just fine.  The corporations have convinced parents that kids need cell phones (using fear of course) and now the kids feel as if a cell phone is a right.  It isn't.  What the heck do kids have to talk about that is so pressing, that it cannot wait unti lthey get home?

Texting?  What is so wrong with actually talking to the otehr person?  If you think about it, it's just another type of toy - one that can get real expensive for the parents.  It's a distraction - since kids being kids, will use them just for the fun of it.

In my oppinion I think that cell phones should be allowed in school.  Yes there is that possoblilty of haveing someone cheat on a test and if that happens they should have it tooken away.  But after all they should be allowed in school.

to install cell phone jammer in the schools maybe a good choice. Nowadays a lot of online shops are selling those kinds of jamming devices and it's easy to get one for a cheap price, like the http://www.jammerall.com/ which I purchased a jammer for myself, this is a nice site. Maybe you can also go and take a look at there.
